Introductions
Hi folks, to get some practice navigating the blog, and to get some formalities out of the way, please introduce yourself to the rest of the class by adding a "comment" to this post (click on the "comments" link below). Make sure to tell us why you decided to take this odd GIS/mapping and information agencies class. Cheers, GREG

Hello, I'm Leah. I just finished my first year in SLIS and I'm employed as the image archive assistant at the Primate Center Library. I decided to take this course because it seems like it will be a useful skill in future librarianing gigs... or potentially something that I could study further in the event that I can't get a decent librarianing gig and need to find gainful employment in some other way. In any case, it looks like interesting material!
Hi all. I’m Meridith, and I just finished my first year in SLIS as well. I am planning to take as many technology focused courses as I can, as I find it interesting and hope it will help me in the job market.
Hello. I'm Paula. Sorry Greg if there's any confusion since I go by my middle name instead of my first. I'm taking this class because I like maps and a now graduated comrade promoted the course. That's about it.
Hello again. I'm Richard. As I mentioned in class I'm a new grad student in geography, which deals quite a bit with mapping and GIS. Greg promised I can use GIS to transport myself through time and space, but we'll see. I’m also hoping that GIS will prove useful for my current PA position for WiscAMP … a program seeking to increase the representation of minority students in science fields.
I also think maps are cool.
Hi folks, I'm the other Lia, as stated in class. As I also stated, I'm done with my first year of my masters in library science. I said some reasons in class about why I'm here and another reason is because I'm interested in geography and is/was considering getting a second masters in urban and regional planning. But after this first year, I don't know if I can give away anymore of my life to degrees.
Hello, I'm Annie and I am half way through my time at SLIS. I have always enjoyed looking at maps and am fascinated with the information that they can convey. I also have an interest in the funding of libraries and would love to be able to map that type of information, if I can ever learn the software.
